Journal, Journal, Journal
You should celebrate!! You are beginning to take the first steps to a healthier rest of your life. When you are ready to take the next step to starting your nutritional journey, the first thing to do is keep an accurate food journal.
So many times we romanticize about what we eat. Picturing only salads and lean cuts of meat instead of the mini candy bars, the handful of M and Ms and the large fries on the side. We also tend to undercut the amount of calories we take in. We can underestimate 500 calories or more of eating on a daily basis. Over a week that is an extra 3,500 calories or more you are actually eating!!
Are you feeling tired, moody or just not motivated to move much? Maybe you are under eating! Under eating can be just as much as a problem as you are depriving your body of the nutrients and fuel it needs for you to be at your best!! Journaling will give you a clear picture of this.
Seeing what you eat is an eye-opening experience to help you close your mouth a little more when food comes around. It will help you see patterns in your eating. It will help you see the times of day in your eating. It will help you see what foods would be beneficial to substitute and transition away from and then towards.
Be proud of yourself! Eat as you normally would and journal what you eat. Give yourself multiple weekdays and a weekend. Don’t be ashamed or hide what you eat…an honest journal is the best journal because it gives an honest picture of what to work with! Get excited as you are starting what many do not!! How incredibly wonderful!!
In the next post we will be going through our journey and writing our day one food journal entry…..
